Please let me know of any free or good value outings you find...

In the meantime, here's the list so far...

  •     'Chelle Bulfin: "Just been to Alnwick castle for the day with our three kids (6, 2 & 2). It cost 4 for the gardens and 10 for the gardens and the castle. With kids it was a waste of money to go into the castle as the garden ticket allows them to explore the outside of the castle and see where Harry Potter was filmed! On the plus side they loved the fountains and gardens, and you only pay for the adults in the party as the kids go free!"

  •     From Valerie Ender - "ARBEIA ROMAN FORT - 10 minutes walk from South Shields Metro and free

  •     DISCOVERY MUSEUM - 5 minutes walk from Newcastle Central Station free entry and an excellent trip out my 12, 4 & 3 yr olds love it.

  •     SOUTH SHIELDS MUSEUM AND ART GALLERY - 5minutes from South Shields Metro free entry - follow the Catherine Cookson Story

  •     Free Art Galleries at Shipley Art Gallery , Gateshead; Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle; University Gallery, Newcastle; Hatton Gallery, Newcastle

  •     Newcastle University also houses the Museum of Antiquities and the Shefton Museum both specialising in archaeological finds

  •     Beaches - Cullercoats Bay, Golden Sands (South Shields), Tynemouth, Whitley Bay

  •     Hebburn Riverside Park and Marina - river views, wildlife and sculpture trail

  •     Bill Quay Community Farm

  •     Rising Sun Country Park, Palmersville

  •     Forest of Imagination, Sculpture Trail, Tyne Dock, South Shields

  •     National Glass Centre, Sunderland. Free and fabulous

  •     Sunderland City Library and Arts Centre houses the Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art

  •     More free attractions in Tyneside - we now have the Gateshead Millenium Bridge and the Baltic Arts Centre in Gateshead, just minutes from the metro, also at Sunderland which now has its metro link, there are the Winter Gardens, which is amazing, interactive and keeps my brood happy all day!

Travelling to any of these attractions is very simple on Tyneside as we have a comprehensive metro system which links everywhere to practically everywhere else!!"
